ABOUT

THE AESTHETIC

Jet-black, rebellious and compelling, THE ORDER is a conceptually-driven collection of womenswear created to transcend the duality of spirit we all possess. So many of us seek, almost desperately, to define ourselves- but this brand was born out of a strong belief that there is beauty in ambiguity and that we are limitless.

The garments of THE ORDER are comprised of dichotomous textures and silhouettes, simultaneously monogamous in color but promiscuous in depth. Light meets shadow and stark meets sheer, visually manifesting the spiritual paradox that defines the collection’s core.

THE ORDER beckons its believers; the deftly independent vixens who set standards instead of meeting them. A faction of femme fetales who revere the power of the mysterious, they are feminine yet fierce, seductive yet intimidating. Individualistic and discerning in parts, together they comprise a tribe pivoted on nonconformity whose driving purpose is to separate the signal from the noise.

Not bound by current trends, THE ORDER weaves a dark and powerful story of femininity that continues across the non-seasonally-bounded collections. Each piece is classic and can be integrated into any wardrobe. All  garments are produced in an artisanal style in Chicago by designer/proprietress Nicole Marét.

CONCEPT

Comprised of elements that have proven themselves to be agents of what we believe as a brand, PARADIGM manifests what we know versus what we believe as an all-black amalgam. This third collection is premised on the introduction of the unexpected into the familiar, synthesizing a new alloy composed of the known and unknown and a new set of equations that determine this aesthetic. The culmination is a slide in the visual and physical archetype, and a shift in what was perceived to be the limit of THE ORDER.

FABRICATIONS + AESTHETIC

A slight departure from THE ORDER's dark & delicate, ultra-feminine look, PARADIGM is defined by a sportier, more streamlined aesthetic. Usual silks and wools are replaced with heavier meshes and sleek scubas, and power netting and sheer nylons are replaced with stretch slubknits and merino jerseys.

Pieces can be layered for more feminine, dramatic effect or worn on their own for a more minimalist look. Understated logo patches on some pieces add an identifying mark to signify THE ORDER as an aspirational, conceptual brand.

THE DESIGNER

Chicago native Nicole Marét has this thing for excess. It all started with too many leopard print bandaids- that's when she was 5, and she didn't even have an injury. There's something about form over function that has driven her ever since, and nothing makes her happier than plotting new ways to dramatize and decorate the human body.  She is captivated by the myriad dimensions that can be forged by a single hue, with a prowess for fusing disparate textures to create garments that are monogamous in color but promiscuous in depth. Flirtatious with the macabre and reliant on shadow and sleight, her work specializes in the unorthodox and will sparkle with any counterculture coquette whose night begins when the clock strikes twelve.

If she isn’t threading needles well into the witching hour or furiously sketching on any available surface, you can usually find her deeply buried in a Tom Wolfe book or spoiling her pet fox. A typography and hairspray aficionado both shorter and smarter than she appears, she dabbles in the preposterous and has a penchant for red lipstick, magic and single-malt scotch. She snags any spare moment she can to hobnob with friends and family, dreaming up her next move in the breaths in between.

Nicole received her BA in Art Studio at UCSB, her BFA in Fashion Design at ILIA - Chicago, and operates locally as an independent graphic consultant, costume designer, sewing instructor and owner/designer of The Ørder.

BAIT SERIES

 –

'Feral,' 'Gauche' and 'Exposé' comprise series of three teaser films created for the launch of Collection IV from THE ORDER, entitled WOLF. The collection is a visual and conceptual deconstruction of the lupine archetype, and the striking contradiction of vulnerability and power that the female wolf embodies.
